Dr. Ulpiano Velez, Jr.
Dr. Ulpiano Velez, Jr., age 81, of Riverdale, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009. A long-time resident of Riverdale, Dr. Velez was a retired physician and a standing member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Velez was also a retired U.S. Army veteran and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel. Full military honors will be rendered following the service. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ulpiano Velez, Sr., and Mariana Velez; one brother, Nando Velez.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Dr. Lucila Velez of Riverdale; two daughters, Maria (Rodney) Little of Riverdale and Dr. Marilu (Dr. John) Thordsen of Seattle, Wash.; one son, retired Senior Master Sgt. Robert (Pamela) Velez of San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Carlos Velez of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Angel Garcia of Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m., in the Horis A. Ward-Tara Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m.
