Behind three touchdown runs by Quantavious Higgins and solid passing by Costa Anderson, Babb Middle football won easily 22-0 over Forest Park Middle on Tuesday, capping an undefeated regular season.
Higgins twice scored on 10-yard touchdown runs set up by long passes by Anderson. It started with a 30-yard pass from Anderson to Timarcus Cullan on Babb's first scoring drive. Then Anderson hit DeAngelo Burr on a 40-yard completion on the next. After both receptions, Higgins scored.
But he wasn't done. Anderson then connected with Higgins for a 40-yard touchdown catch-and-run.
Babb (6-0) and the rest of Clayton County middle school football teams begin the playoffs October 6.
Henry County 36, Luella 14
Scoring four times in the first half, Henry County Middle rolled to a 36-14 victory over Luella Middle.
With the win, Henry County (5-0) clinched the South Division with one game left, seizing the No. 1 seed for the playoffs and home-field advantage that comes with it.
Terez Miller started the game by returning the opening kickoff 63 yards for a touchdown. Jordan Kemp converted a 2-point conversion, and Henry County was up 8-0.
Then the points began to pile up.
Tight end Javon Cobb caught a 14-yard pass from Marquez Souder for a touchdown, and Kemp again converted the 2-point conversion.
Patrick Singleton scored on an 8-yard run two minutes into the second quarter. Kylin Terrell returned an interception 22 yards for a touchdown on Luella's ensuing possession.
By halftime, Henry County led 30-0.
Souder eventually added a 68-yard bootleg run for a score in the third quarter.
Henry County thrived on defense despite the loss of starting cornerback Barnett Bailey for the season. Bailey suffered a broken collarbone early in the game. He was immediately taken to the hospital after the game for surgery.
Kendrick 34, Sequoyah 0
Kendrick Middle improved its record to 5-1, shutting out Sequoyah on Tuesday night.
And the route began early, as Eric Swinney returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
From there, Joshua Moody caught a touchdown pass from Abduli Williams. Dee Washington rushed for two scores. And Joshua West took a handoff on a reverse and took it for a score.
