The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its October work session on Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Central Administration Complex, located at 1058 Fifth Ave., Jonesboro.
On Monday, the Clayton County Board of Education approved the following appointments: Susan Patrick, formerly the principal at Rex Mill Middle School, was appointed as the school system's assistant superintendent for cluster III (overseeing Jonesboro and Mt. Zion high schools, and all of their feeder elementary and middle schools); Cassandra Hopkins, formerly the school system's coordinator of elementary curriculum and instruction, was named as the new principal of Rex Mill Middle School; Rhonda Powe, formerly a teacher at Kemp Elementary School, was appointed as an assistant principal at Arnold Elementary School; Janet Green, who was previously a data support specialist and reading coach with Fulton County Schools, was appointed as an assistant principal of Haynie Elementary School; Kimberly Dugger, who was previously a teacher at Sequoyah Middle School, was promoted to become an assistant principal at the school; Sheryl Perkins, who was previously the interim itinerant assistant principal at Morrow High School, was named as the school's permanent assistant principal.
The U.S. Air Force Reserve recently announced that Airman 1st Class Cole A. Robinson, son of Rex resident, Timmy Robinson, and Chay Robinson of Carson, Calif., has graduated from an eight-week basic military training course at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During his training, Cole Robinson studied military discipline, the Air Force's core values, and basic warfare principles and skills. Cole Robinson earned the distinction of being an honor graduate. Additionally, airmen earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force by completing basic training.
