Emory Healthcare recently announced the opening of its first family practice facility in the Southern Crescent.
The facility, Emory at Eagles Landing, opened in Stockbridge to serve the primary-care needs of area residents, said Dr. Kennard Hood, the facility's practicing physician and medical director.
"I think this is an untapped market for Emory," Hood said.
Emory Healthcare has seven Emory Specialty Associates practices in metro Atlanta, he said, but its Stockbridge facility is its only family practice in south-metro Atlanta.
"This new facility will provide an attractive and comfortable setting for our patients when they most need it," said Hood. "By choosing an Emory physician or facility, residents in this area have become a partner with us in pursuing the most appropriate, medically advanced treatment available today."
Hood opened the 3,700-square-foot facility on Oct. 12, with a five-member staff.
The 39-year-old is a graduate of the Emory University School of Medicine and an Emory resident-trained physician, certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He has lived and practiced in Henry County for the past 10 years, with 13 years experience in practicing family medicine.
"We are very pleased to offer residents of Henry County the excellence of Emory medical care with Dr. Hood at the helm of Emory at Eagles Landing," said Dr. Wright Caughman, director of The Emory Clinic.
"This new office underscores our commitment to continue to bring the best health care to this community," Caughman continued. "Emory at Eagles Landing is a vital part of our large health system, Emory Healthcare, and patients will benefit from continued access to Emory's specialty doctors when they are needed."
Emory at Eagles Landing offers health-care services for children and adults, ages 3 and up, according to Moira Fisher, office manager for Emory at Eagles Landing.
"We really want to blend into the community," Fisher said.
She said the facility, located at 830 Eagle's Landing Parkway in Stockbridge, is able to provide services from basic physical examinations to minor surgical procedures. The facility is also capable of providing echocardiography and ultrasonography services.
"The sky is the limit as far as how many people we can serve," said Hood.
Hood acknowledged he has a working relationship with hospitals in the region, including Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge, and Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta.
