Margaret Alton Hudlow

Margaret Alton Hudlow, age 81, a former resident of Forest Park, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m., in Horis A. Ward Tara Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 2 to 3 p.m.

A long-time resident of Forest Park, Mrs. Hudlow was retired from the American Red Cross and The United Way/ Family Care in Forest Park after many years. Mrs. Hudlow was also a volunteer for Samaritans Together and was a member of Riverdale First Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Rodney Hudlow (Laura) of Lilburn; two daughters, Karen Hudlow and Laura Hudlow of Stone Mountain; two grandchildren, Erin Hudlow and Ben Hudlow; and sister, Frances Waller of Ty Ty, Ga.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Julius L. Hudlow; parents, Francis Alton and Walter Alton; and two brothers and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to Samaritans Together, 1000 Main St., Forest Park, Ga., 30297.

Nancy Higgins Dawson

Nancy Higgins Dawson, age 59, of Jonesboro, died on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ms. Dawson was born in Houston, Texas, on Jan. 9, 1950, but has been a Georgia resident since 1952.

Ms. Dawson was a graduate of Forest Park Senior High School in Forest Park. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in history from West Georgia College in 1972 and taught American history at Jonesboro Junior High School for several years.

She joined the Delta Air Lines family in 1977, and retired in January 2005.

Ms. Dawson is preceded in death by her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Alton (Kathryn) Higgins of Forest Park.

She is survived by her sister, Susan Higgins Smith; brother, Jeffrey Paul Higgins; sister-in-law, Gloria Higgins; four nieces, Karmen Higgins Giddens, Courtney Smith, Angel Higgins Franks, and Heather Higgins; and great-nieces, Payten Peavy and Madison Franks.

The family will receive friends at Pope Dickson & Son Jonesboro Chapel, 168 N. McDonough St., Jonesboro, Ga., 30236 on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro.

Memorial gifts may be made to Sacred Journey Hospice of McDonough, The American Cancer Society or a local Humane Society.
