Clayton County Public Schools Superintendent Edmond Heatley will host a series of community forums to gauge public opinion on the quality of education available to students in the county. Attendees will be able to make comments, and ask questions of Heatley. The next forum will be held Thursday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m., at Charles R. Drew High School, 6237 Garden Walk Boulevard, Riverdale. The remaining forums will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m., at Morrow High School, 2299 Old Rex Morrow Road, Morrow, and on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m., at Mt. Zion High School, 2535 Mt. Monday

National Archives at Atlanta Regional Administrator James McSweeney will deliver the keynote address for Clayton State University's Constitution Week on Monday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m., in room 272 of the James M. Baker University Center.

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its September business meeting on Monday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Central Administration Complex, located at 1058 Fifth Ave., in Jonesboro.

Tuesday

Clayton State University's Department of Campus Life and peer educators program will kick off the school's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with "Lakers Fiesta," featuring a Latin band, games and authentic Latin food on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 11:30 a.m., to 1:30 p.m. The event will be held in the University Center Quad plaza, and admission is free. Sept. 17

Kendrick Middle School's School Council will meet on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m. The school's Parent-Teacher-Student Association will hold a progress pick-up meeting at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will take place at the school, which is located at 7971 Kendrick Road, in Jonesboro.

E.J. Swint Elementary School's Parent-Teacher Association will meet on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m., at the school, which is located at 500 Highway 138 South, in Jonesboro.

Riverdale High School's Parent-Teacher-Student Association will meet on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m., at the school, which is located at 160 Roberts Drive, in Riverdale.

Sept. 19

The Clayton County Council of PTA's will hold its first council meeting of the 2009-2010 school year on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m., to noon, at Lovejoy High School, which is located at 1587 McDonough Road, in Hampton. During the meeting, the council's goals and the budget for the new school year will be discussed.

The U.S. Air Force recently announced that Airman Tyrone L. Mitchell, a 2007 graduate of Mount Zion High School, has graduated from an eight-week basic military training course at Lackland Air Force Base, which is located in San Antonio, Texas. During his training, Mitchell learned about military discipline; Air Force core values, and basic warfare principles and skills. Additionally, the Community College of the Air Force awards four credits toward an associate in applied science degree to airmen who complete basic training. Mitchell is the son of Jonesboro resident, Samantha White, of Tiffany Court, and the grandson of Decatur resident, Meta Mitchell.

The Clayton County Public Library system offers many services to students, including tutoring programs for those who speak either English or Spanish, and online practice tests and electronic test preparation books for the SAT, GED, ASVAB, and TOEFFL exams.
