Seminar focuses on prostate cancer

From Staff Reports

Southern Regional Medical Center, in conjunction with Georgia Urology, will host a free men's health seminar Sunday, at the hospital's Spivey Station Surgery Center in Jonesboro.

The event, which will focus on prostate cancer, will offer men an opportunity to talk with physicians, learn about prostate cancer treatments and receive a free prostate-specific antigen test. The seminar will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., at 7813 Spivey Station Blvd., Suite 100, Jonesboro.

The seminar is part of Southern Regional Health System's partnership with the da Vinci® Surgery Awareness Initiative to educate the public about prostate cancer, how it is detected, what causes the disease and how it is commonly treated.

One in six men, in the U.S., will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, the most common, non-skin-related cancer among men, according to the American Cancer Society. The society says prostate cancer is also the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men in the U.S.

Common prostate cancer treatments include surgery, radiation therapy and hormone therapy.

To register for Sunday's seminar, call (770) 541-1111.
