Willie "Bill" Bellamy
Willie Lucille Dudley Bellamy, of Ellenwood, known fondly as "Bill," passed away on Sept. 25, 2009 at the age of 85 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Galivants Ferry, S.C., she was the 11th and youngest child of Ausgood S. and Catherine C. "Kitty" Dudley. Willie worked briefly as a secretary at the Pentagon during World War II. Later she was a telephone operator in Florence, S.C. Willie was preceded in death by both parents, her siblings, and infant grandson, Drew Strickland.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clifford Bellamy; daughters, Pat (David) Barrett, Lynn (Buddy) Mitchell, Jan (Charles) Winstead, and Pam (William) Strickland; son, David (Tamera) Bellamy; grandchildren, Dave (Alina) and Michael (Stephanie) Barrett, Fran, Mitch (Sherry), Ben and Dan Mitchell, Mike (Deborah) Winstead, Michelle, Cliff, and Jonathon Bellamy and Liddy Strickland; seven great-grandchildren; dear friends, Mildred Hunt and Dot Mills; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; nieces and nephews.
Willie felt strongly about the value of education and participated in PTA. She played an active role in her children's lives and encouraged them to pursue leadership roles in church, school and civic organizations. Willie worked with youth and taught Sunday School at Bethel United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her faith and love of family.
The family will receive friends at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Ga., 30281 from 6 to 8 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 26, and from 1 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 27. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Horis A. Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Dana Everhart officiating. Willie's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
