The Dutchtown boys soccer team doesn't have another match until April 14 against Stockbridge. That's when it will resume its quest for an undefeated regular season, which would be the first in school history.
After hanging on for a 4-3 win over Luella on March 29, the Bulldogs are 9-0-1 overall, 5-0 in Area 4-AAAA and looking like the best team in the Southern Crescent.
With the final month of soccer officially underway, it's a good time to for a review of the best teams and best games left of the season:
Dutchtown: Bulldogs have three prolific scorers in Darion Copeland, Judah Goodridge and Zach Silva. Dutchtown has scored 66 goals in 10 games.
Forest Park: Panthers are 7-3 overall, 4-1 in Area 4-AAAA, but still have Dutchtown and North Clayton remaining on the schedule.
Union Grove: Wolverines are 11-3 overall, 5-1 in Area 2-AAAAA and played arguably the toughest schedule in the Southern Crescent. Remaining four opponents are a combined 34-11-3.
Others: North Clayton, Luella, Woodland.
Forest Park at Dutchtown, Friday, April 16, 5:30 p.m.: This game was for the region championship last season. Forest Park came out on top in a mild upset at home. Dutchtown will surely be looking for revenge.
Luella at Union Grove, Friday, April 16, 6 p.m.: Assuming No. 8 Greenbrier remains undefeated in Area 2-AAAAA, this great county rivalry should determine who gets to host a state tournament game in the first round.
Dutchtown at Grayson, Wednesday, April 21, 5:30: Dutchtown must get past Forest Park first, but if they do, the only major obstacle in its way of an undefeated regular season is Grayson, a tough Gwinnett county opponent.
Eagle's Landing: Lady Golden Eagles are 9-3 overall, 5-0 in Area 4-AAA, ranked No. 8 in Class AAA and playing well behind Ole Miss signee A'shanae Monroe.
Eagle's Landing Christian: Lady Chargers are 7-2 overall, 2-0 in Area 7-A and ranked No. 8 in Class AA/A behind Georgia signee Carli Shultis.
Union Grove: Lady Wolverines are 11-2-1, 5-1 in Area 2-AAAAA and claim victories over both Eagle's Landing and ELCA.
Others: Dutchtown, Luella, Ola.
ELCA at Pike County, Tuesday, April 13: Pike is 10-1 overall and undefeated in Area 7-A. Its only loss was to Columbus, which is 11-1-1. So it should provide ELCA with a tough match with the area championship at stake.
Luella at Union Grove, Friday, April 16, 8 p.m.: As with the boys match-up, this county rivalry will have serious state tournament implications. Both teams are currently 5-1 in Area 2-AAAAA.
Heritage at Union Grove, Tuesday, April 20, 7:30 p.m.: Already assured a spot in the playoffs, the Lady Wolverines have quite the test in its regular season finale. Heritage is ranked fourth in Class AAAA and cruising toward an Area 8-AAAA championship.
