Easter, the most holy day - James Bell

One might argue that Christmas, the day we celebrate as the birthday of Christ, is the most holy day of the year and they would have a good basis for their point of view.

While we don't know for sure just what day Jesus Christ was born, the whole world recognizes Dec. 25 as His birthday. What a grand day this was for all mankind. The great God of the universe, filled with love and grace for all of His creation, sent His one and only Son into the world to live a perfect life for an example to men, to show them how to live and to offer Himself as the perfect lamb of God.

Through Him, God the Father decided to reconcile the whole of mankind to Himself: to all who would have faith and belief in Jesus, God would forgive their sins and give to each eternal life. What a great gift. What great love does the Father give.

The most well known verse in the Bible, John 3:16, says: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but would have eternal life."

Yes, Christmas is a holy day, a wonderful day, a day that is loved by most for it means so much to the entire world.

I believe Easter is the most holy day, because it is the day our beloved Savior rose from the grave. God resurrected Him from the grave, brought Him back to life and by so doing, He empowered His great plan of salvation for all who believe in Him. Jesus was dead when taken down from the cross. He was taken to a borrowed grave, embalmed with spices, wrapped in clean linens and left in the tomb. A great and heavy stone was rolled into place to secure the grave.

The Jewish leaders, who thought they had killed Jesus and were finally rid of Him, asked Pilate, the Roman governor, to send a detachment of soldiers to guard the tomb to make sure none of His followers could come during the night and take Him. Jesus was in the grave for three days but on the morning of that third day, He arose from the grave and was alive to live forever. His promise, and our hope, is to be resurrected one day just as He was -- brought back to life to live forever in Heaven with Him.

Christians put all their faith and hope in Jesus Christ and His promise that, if we believe in Him, we shall never die but will always be with Him in Heaven.

This is our hope and belief. What about you? Do you believe in Jesus?

I am privileged to talk with people, often sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them and asking this question: "Now, we know this won't happen, but just suppose you died tonight and you stood before God and He asked you: 'Why should I let you into my Heaven?' What would you tell Him?"

Most say, "I would tell Him I'm a good person and I try to treat everyone right." I tell them the way to Heaven is through belief in Jesus Christ.

I will tell you the same. You must have faith and trust and belief in Jesus. I pray you will.
