Clayton County police said Wednesday they have arrested a man in connection with a shooting last week that left one man dead and another wounded.
Derrick Lamont Jones, 28, of College Park, was charged with murder and aggravated assault, Clayton County Police Lt. Tina Daniel said. He was arrested Tuesday.
Online court records show a preliminary hearing in his case was set for April 20, and that a bond hearing was set for April 23.
He is accused of shooting to death 30-year-old Terrant Flournoy of College Park on April 1, and wounding 17-year-old Montavious Davis of Riverdale. Police said Flournoy was apparently arguing with Jones during a party at a house on Brookstone Road.
Police said witnesses told authorities that when Jones got into his vehicle, Flournoy reportedly broke his driver's-side window and Jones shot him with a 9 mm handgun he had in the car. Flournoy was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Davis, who was standing nearby, was struck in the leg and treated at Southern Regional Medical Center.
"Witnesses were able to positively identify Derrick Jones as the shooter and Mr. Jones did in fact admit he was the shooter to detectives," Daniel said.
