Because He loves me - James C. Bell

I have the privilege of talking to numerous people on a one-on-one basis, each week, about our great God. Some want to hear and talk about Him and some are reluctant to talk about anything pertaining to God or the Bible.

I usually start the conversation, after a few words of introduction and greeting, by asking if they believe in God. Most answer, "yes, I do believe in God." Then I ask if they believe the Bible, which is God's Holy Word. Most affirm this also and I say, "you probably know John 3:16, which says, 'For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but would have everlasting life.'"

When God says He loves the world in this verse, He is talking about you and me, all the people of the world and not the physical world. Isn't it wonderful that our mighty God loves us and cares about our life and even protects us as we go about our daily lives and duties.

There is yet another great verse I would like to show you today that assures us -- those who believe in God and trust Him -- that His love is confirmed by all the promises of God. Please read all of Psalm 91 but pay particular attention to verses 14 through 16 which say, "Because he loves me, says the Lord, I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him; with long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

The great and mighty God of this universe says: "Because he loves me." This is truly a great promise of God to each of us and it certainly does assure me that God loves all of us who belong to Him and accept His blessed Son, Jesus Christ, as our Savior.

These promises of God, given to us throughout His Holy Word, encourage me to tell others of His great salvation plan and to lead them in praying to accept Christ and live for Him. Please read John, Chapter 14, and pay particular attention to verses 1 through 6. Here, Jesus tells us, "Do not let your heart be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me."

Trust is the antidote for a troubled heart. In verse 6, Jesus assures us our trust is secure in Him for He tells us, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Jesus is not only one way to God, He is the only way.

"Because he loves me" is to be interpreted as us loving God and God loving us. We Christians are so blessed by our loving God that we should praise Him every day and be ready and able to tell the lost, those who have not accepted Him as Lord of their life, how important it is to believe and trust in Him and to lead them to Him.

This is the duty of every Christian -- the command of Christ -- not just a suggestion. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will convict the heart of those whom you know are not Christians and give you the courage to tell them how to be saved. Only you can find the right answer to this statement: "But I wouldn't know what to say; I've never been taught to witness!"

There are many books in the library on witnessing and in the Bible bookstores as well. You can teach yourself or you can join a witnessing program such as "Faith" and allow another Christian to teach you. I guarantee it will be a great experience for you.

God will bless you and lead you to be instrumental in saving someone -- maybe one of your family or neighbors. May God bless you as you attempt great things for Him.
