Those in the Southern Crescent looking for financial assistance to improve or start small businesses can attend a free, small-business workshop on Wednesday at Clayton State University in Morrow.
The financing workshop, hosted by the Small Business Development Center at Clayton State, will offer information on U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)-backed loan options. It will begin at 9:30 a.m., in room T-152 of the School of Business, on the campus of Clayton State, at 2000 Clayton State Blvd., Morrow, according to University Spokesman John Shiffert.
"Last year, several deals were made as a result of this workshop," Shiffert said. "Individuals encouraged to attend include business owners, business assistance organizations and chamber of commerce members."
Registration for the two-hour workshop can be done by calling the university's Small Business Development Center at (678) 466-5100, or by visiting http://business.clayton.edu/SBDC/default.htm, and clicking on the online registration link.
Alisa Kirk, a consultant for the Small Business Development Center, said the workshop's featured speaker will be Terry Crispin, senior vice president of financing for Borrego Springs Bank, in Panama City Beach, Fla.
"Banks are usually more willing to loan, when it's a SBA loan, because there is a guarantee," Kirk said. "They're [the federal government] trying to encourage lending by making it a little easier."
