Even if no one recognizes the vehicle, police in Forest Park hope someone will recognize the driver.
Forest Park Police, on Monday, released sketches of the woman believed to be behind the wheel of an SUV that struck a 60-year-old woman walking in a crosswalk last month.
Police said Carol Floyd was crossing Jonesboro Road when she was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee at the Conley Road intersection at about 8:15 a.m., on March 19.
A police officer, who happened to be coming to a stop at the intersection, witnessed the collision that knocked Floyd to the ground, and it was recorded on the patrol car's dashboard camera. The driver of the SUV reportedly stopped and apologized, but drove off while the officer was attending to Floyd.
Police had hoped that video of the incident, which has been widely circulated, would help them identify a suspect.
So far, that hasn't happened, Forest Park Police Maj. Chris Matson said. "If they didn't call before, seeing the vehicle, maybe they'll call now that they've seen the sketch of the driver," Matson said.
Floyd, who said Monday she hasn't been back to work since the incident and still has pain in her knees, is hoping for the same thing. "Somebody has to know who she is," Floyd said. "Maybe with this sketch, and the picture of the car, maybe, that'll do something."
Police described the driver as a white female, 25 to 30 years old, with sandy, blonde hair. Police said she appeared to be between 5 feet, 4 inches and 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and wore glasses. Sketches composed by a Georgia Bureau of Investigation artist show the woman with glasses, and without.
The vehicle she was driving was described as a black, Jeep Grand Cherokee Freedom Edition. It has a chrome step bar underneath the driver's side door, and police said it appeared to have an all-black wheel in the front, driver's-side position. Police also said the vehicle appeared to have a chrome license plate or centerpiece on the front bumper, and tinted, rear passenger windows.
Anyone with information that could identify the vehicle or the driver is asked to call Forest Park Police Detective Lt. James Delk at (404) 366-4141 or (404) 608-2366, ext. 704.
