Primrose event focused on autism awareness

Administrators with the Primrose School at Eagle's Landing hope they can help educate the public and provide the community with spring fun at the same time.

The Primrose School at Eagle's Landing will host its annual "Spring Fling Open House" event today, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The private preschool is located in Stockbridge, at 201 Center Pointe Parkway, just off of Eagle's Landing Parkway.

"The public is welcome to bring children to the event," said Teresa Rains, the preschool's director. Rains said today's event will include a silent auction and raffle as well as gifts and prizes, live music, food and games.

During the event, attendees will be able to learn more about the 93-student preschool, owned by franchisee, Cherry Thomas, who opened the center in 2004. The center serves children, ages six weeks to five years old, with curriculums up to pre-k and kindergarten.

Rains said, however, that the main focus of today's event will be to increase awareness of autism and charities that support research on the disorder.

"We do a fund-raiser every year to raise money for children's causes and charities," said Rains.

Rains said money raised at the event will be donated to the Primrose Children's Foundation and Emory Autism Center, which will have representatives on hand to provide health and safety information to attendees.

"We're doing this so that parents may be able to have it diagnosed and can help their children cope, and they can get the needed information to enhance their learning at home as well as here at school," Rains said.
