I saw a magazine in a waiting room at Emory Hospital with a rather offensive front cover.
It said, with large red letters, "Is God (still) dead?" I wondered if some atheist professor was trying to shock his readers with such an awful statement, or was he just trying to attract attention to his article?
I wasn't shocked, but I did feel the publisher of the magazine was being much too liberal, and somewhat foolish, for he must have known the question would be offensive to all Christians.
The writer was obviously referring to the death of Jesus Christ and His burial. By asking such a question, he evidently doesn't believe in the resurrection -- the fact that Jesus came back to life after being dead in the grave for three days.
All Christians do believe Christ arose from the grave and is alive and well today! This event is our hope and belief. Without the resurrection, hundreds of millions of Christians would have no hope of having eternal life in heaven with Jesus Christ.
If Christ did not rise from the grave, there would be no plan of salvation! There would be no way any of us could be saved from death and the grave! Satan would have won the battle and would reign supreme over all the world!
But Christ did triumph over the grave, He did defeat Satan. He did empower the plan of salvation. He did provide the one-and-only way for mankind to be saved from the grave and saved to heaven. Praise the Lord!
In the Holy Bible, there are many promises of salvation made by our loving God: John 3:16 is the first one that comes to my mind, because, here, God told of His great love for all of us and promised through belief in, and acceptance of, His Son, we would have everlasting life.
Jesus said in John 10:10: "I am come that all may have life and have it more abundantly." In John 14:6, He said: "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me."
In Romans 10: 9 and 10, Paul said, "If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the mouth one confesses, resulting in righteousness, and with the heart one believes, resulting in salvation."
I have always liked 1st John 1:9, for it says: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
My friend, I can testify of what I know and have experienced in my life, and tell you that my Lord Jesus Christ is alive and well, for He promised if I would believe in Him and accept Him as my savior, He would change my life and my destination.
I believe I heard Him say this directly to me through a preacher in my church when I was 19 years old. I took Him at His word and accepted Him that morning as my savior and Lord.
Oh, how He has changed my life!
His Holy Spirit came into my life at that very time and began to teach me how to live a life that is pleasing to God. With wise council and direction, He has faithfully guided my life through good times and bad times. He has kept me safe from my enemies; He has healed me of deadly sickness, even a killer such as acute leukemia, and forgiven me my sins, over and over.
He has given me great opportunities to serve Him, and through my witness, has brought many souls to Himself. I give Him all the praise and glory and thank Him for blessing me and my life.
If you believe and trust in Him, He will do the same for you. He will enrich your life with so many blessings you will not be able to contain all of them. You and your loved ones will know His blessed peace and He will give you His gift of Eternal Life.
How could anyone turn down such an invitation? Believe in Him today, for He Is Alive!
