The American Cancer Society is the "Official Sponsor of Birthdays." Imagine a world with more birthdays. From a child's point of view nothing can be more exciting than a birthday party. They would have one every day if they could. Cancer robs many people, both young and old, of their birthdays. If we could find a cure for this life destroying disease, there would be a lot more birthdays to celebrate. How wonderful that would be!
Relay For Life Butts County is having a birthday party on Friday, April 23 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Butts County Parks & Recreation Department on the Charlie Brown Field; and you are invited. Our theme for this year is "Celebrate More Birthdays." Volunteers have been working very hard to raise money to fund the fight against cancer. If you haven't made a donation yet for this worthy cause, you will have the opportunity to do so at the relay event. Teams will be continuing to raise funds at their campsites throughout the evening.
We will be selling luminaries until shortly before the luminary ceremony. We will be selling balloons, white in memory of those who have lost their battle with cancer, and purple for those who are battling cancer and have survived.Their names will be written on the balloons and they will be released before dark.
There will be a lot of fun activities and lots of good food, such as, BBQ, boiled peanuts, hot dogs, hamburgers, chili dogs, cotton candy, ice cream sundaes, smoothies, pickles and popcorn. I'm sure there will be something for everyone.
If you are a Cancer Survivor, we invite you to our Survivor/Caregiver Reception on Thursday, April 22 at 6 p.m. at the Butts County Parks & Recreation Department.
