Jackson man dies in Locust Grove wreck

Funeral services will be held Saturday for a Butts County man who was killed in a traffic accident on Interstate 75 in Locust Grove.

Randy Wayne Jones, 52, of Jackson, died Tuesday at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

The accident occurred April 17, at approximately 10:30 a.m., on I-75 southbound, south of Bill Gardner Parkway, according to Henry County Police Capt. Jason Bolton. Bolton said Jones was a passenger in a 1999 Ford Ranger when the accident happened.

"The tread separated from a tire, causing the driver to lose control," Bolton said. "The vehicle ... overturned several times, ejecting the passenger."

Jones was airlifted to Grady, where he died from his injuries, Bolton said. The driver, whose name was not released, was taken by ground to Henry Medical Center after the wreck, and was later released.

Jones' family will receive friends today, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in McDonough.
