A Hampton teen was killed and two others were injured in what witnesses told police appeared to be a drive-by shooting Friday night in Jonesboro.
Police have released few details of the incident, but said a group of people had gathered for a party or a cookout at a home on Woodcock Street, when, at around 9 p.m., a vehicle drove by the home and someone inside fired into the crowd.
"Witnesses say a dark-colored vehicle drove down the street at a high rate of speed and shots were fired from the vehicle into the crowd," Clayton County Police Lt. Tina Daniel said. "We are still attempting to determine if there was a particular person they were trying to get, or if this was just a random shooting."
Police identified the person killed as Richard Timmons, 19, of Hampton.
Police are not releasing the names of the two people injured, but said one was grazed by a bullet and treated at the scene, and the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Southern Regional Medical Center.
Daniel said the vehicle was described as possibly being a dark blue or gray Honda.
She said police are releasing little information about the shooting so as not to jeopardize the investigation. No arrests had been made, Daniel said Monday afternoon.
