The Belk department store, at 1800 Jonesboro Road in McDonough, will hold its Spring Charity Sale Saturday.
Twenty-seven charitable organizations and schools in Henry and Clayton counties will reap the benefits of the event that will last from 6 to 10 a.m., on Saturday, according to Karen Garcia, human resources office manager at the McDonough location.
"We give the charities tickets ahead of time, and they sell the tickets for $5 each," Garcia said. "That enables customers to come in and shop ... and the charities keep all the proceeds."
The local Belk store, she added, has held charity sales twice a year for the last eight years. This year's event will benefit organizations including, but not limited to: A Friend's House, Haven House, the J. Charley Griswell Senior Center, Sacred Journey Hospice, Awesome, Inc., the Salvation Army, Youth Under Construction, Prevent Child Abuse of Henry County, and the Hands of Hope Clinic.
Representatives from each organization receiving funds, Garcia added, will be on hand to talk to shoppers about their organization. "It helps to promote the charities, and lets people know what charities are out there," Garcia said.
Belk's last Charity Sale, in November, raised $4 million for non-profit groups in the retail chain's 16-state market, she added.
Belk issued a written statement in February, regarding this Saturday's sale. Shoppers who purchased tickets, according to the statement, will be entitled to discounts ranging from 20-70 percent, throughout the store.
"Customers will also receive $5 off their first purchase of $5 or more at the event, and Belk cardholders will receive double Rewards points for card purchases," the release states. "Belk Elite cardholders will receive triple Rewards points for card purchases."
