Girls soccer playoffs begin tonight

The Georgia High School Association girls soccer tournament takes center stage tonight with first-round contests set throughout the state.

Seven teams from the Southern Crescent have played their way into the event.

The following is a list of first-round games involving local teams.

Class AAAA

Jenkins at Union Grove

The Lady Wolverines (15-2-1) play a first-round game at home against their opponent from Savannah. Jenkins is 11-4 on the season. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.

Game note: Union Grove has shutout its last seven opponents.

Lovejoy at Tift:

The Wildcats (8-3) travel to south Georgia for the 6 p.m kickoff against the Lady Blue Devils (13-2) at 6 p.m.

Game note: The Wildcats face a squad which won 13 of its last 14 games.

Luella at Savannah Arts

The Luella Lady Lions (11-4) face a long bus ride for its first round game. Savvanah Arts (12-3) shutout Henry County 6-0 in its last game.

Game note: Luella had seven shutouts this year.

Class AAAA

Harris County at Ola

This Lady Mustangs (12-5) have won four of its last five games heading into their 5:30 kickoff against visiting Harris County.

Game Note: Harris County is in the playoff despite posting a losing 7-9 record.

Upson-Lee at Dutchtown

The Dutchtown Lady Bulldogs (9-4) entertain Upson-Lee (8-7) in the first-round opener. Kickoff is 6 p.m.

Game Note: Dutchtown has outscored its opponents 50-26.

Class AA/A

Eagle's Landing at Perry (Friday)

Eagle's Landing (11-6) heads to Perry (10-5) for a first-round battle at 6:30 p.m.

Game Note: Eagle's Landing had won two straight until losing to Spalding in its last outing.

ELCA at Brookstone (Friday)

ELCA (11-3) heads to its first-round game against Brookstone (7-3-1) with plenty of offense. The game starts at 5:30

Game Note: ELCA has outscored opponents 91-17.
