Riverdale police continued to search, Thursday, for a suspect in the shooting death of a Riverdale woman, according to Police Chief Samuel Patterson.
Wisdom Jeffery, 38, allegedly shot and killed his estranged, 21-year-old wife inside her apartment, Wednesday, with a weapon believed to be a shotgun, said Patterson.
"The African-American female was shot by a single shotgun blast," he said.
Patterson did not release the name of the victim.
He said it is believed that Jeffery entered the woman's apartment at approximately 2 a.m., at Chateau Forest Apartments, at 6603 Church St., in Riverdale.
Patterson said he did not know Jeffery's motive for allegedly killing his wife.
"We assume domestic violence," said the chief. "We don't really know at this point."
He said that, on the evening before the shooting (Tuesday), the Riverdale Police Department had responded to the victim's apartment after receiving a phone call, and had contact with Jeffery.
The woman did not have a restraining order against Jeffery, or any evidence of physical abuse, said Patterson. He said police did remove Jeffery from the property.
Patterson said the woman had been moving from place to place, and was possibly trying to stay away from her estranged husband.
He said it is believed the victim and Jeffery have a child, but said the child is not located in Georgia.
Police are on the look-out for Jeffery, who is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds, with a medium build, and a thin beard.
Jeffery was driving a gray, or silver Ford Explorer, with a Pennsylvania tag, according to Patterson.
Jeffery is considered armed and dangerous, police said.
Individuals with information about Jeffery, or the incident, should contact Investigator P.C. Wilburn, of the Riverdale Police Department, at (770) 909-5429, or Crime Stoppers Atlanta, at (404) 577-8477.
