Hundreds of residents, from in and around the Southern Crescent, gathered at Mundy's Mill High School in Jonesboro, on Saturday, for the sixth annual 13th Congressional District Health Fair.
The event brought together more than 90 health-related companies, which provided information and basic health screenings to the general public.
The health fair was hosted by the Office of U.S. Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.), and included commentary from several notable speakers: Dr. Rogsbert Phillips, one of Atlanta's preeminent breast cancer surgeons, spoke on the importance of regular self-examinations for cancer; Dr. Farah Williams, a leading diagnostic radiologist, informed fair participants of high-definition imaging, now used by many offices, to detect certain types of cancer; and State Rep. Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone), who was diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer earlier this year, spoke about the importance of early detection in the treatment of cancer.
