Making of a rivalry-softball style

They have never met on the softball diamond, until now.

But this afternoon four-time Class A champ Eagle's Landing Christian goes up against Strong Rock in what is sure to be the start of a rivalry. The first-ever meeting between the two schools is set for Strong Rock in Locust Grove at 5.

Strong Rock spent the past two years playing in the GISA, but has joined the GHSA in all sports starting this year.

In softball, the two schools will be part of the same league, competing in Region 9-A.

ELCA enters the contest on a three-game winning streak and is ranked third in the first Class A poll. The Lady Chargers' recent victories include an 18-0 win against Eagle's Landing and a 10-4 victory against Stockbridge.

Strong Rock comes into the game with a 5-4 record. It has played nearby Locust Grove three times and has a 2-1 record. Its last game was a 3-2 loss against Locust Grove.

Its biggest win this season came in a 17-2 decision against Crawford County.

Union Grove on a roll:The Union Grove softball team could move up in the softball rankings this week. Currently ranked No. 6 in the preseason Class AAAA poll, the Lady Wolverines are 6-1 on the year.

The victories include three wins in a row, with two of the contests by shutout.

Union Grove gets back in action today at home against Griffin.

Ola seeks to get back on track: The Ola Mustangs started the season with four wins in a row, but have lost two out of three. Today, the fifth-ranked team in the Class AAAA poll takes on Jones County.

Jones County is coached by former Eagle's Landing coach Blake Lyons.
