Chuck Donovan, the Libertarian candidate to represent Georgia in the United States Senate, will host a cookout at Starr Park in Forest Park, at noon Saturday, Aug. 28.
From 8 a.m., to noon, volunteers for Donovan will canvas the Forest Park area. The public will be able to enjoy hot dogs, and interact with Donovan at the park, starting at noon.
Donovan, an international airline pilot from Mableton, is among those challenging incumbent U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson(R-Ga.), in the Nov. 2 election. Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Mike Thurmond is challenging Isakson as a Democrat.
Matt Godown, Donovan's campaign manager, said Donovan is focusing on security, civil liberties and reducing the country's national debt.
"Our campaign is focused on the national debt and the federal spending," Godown said. "If you are broke, you can't fix anything. Most people [politicians] want to talk about the freedoms and rights of the people who vote for them, but we take the rights of everyone seriously," he said.
"We're trying to get people to start taking their civil liberties and civil rights seriously again."
Starr Park is adjacent to Forest Park City Hall, located at 745 Forest Parkway, in Forest Park. For more information, call (770) 314-0799.
