Clayton students to perform 'The Piano Lesson'

Friday- Saturday

Clayton County Public Schools' Fine Arts Magnet High School theatre students will perform a play, entitled "The Piano Lesson," on Friday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, which is located at 2530 Mt. Monday

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its December Business Meeting on Monday, Dec. 6, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Central Administration Complex, which is located at 1058 Fifth Ave., in Jonesboro.

The Jonesboro branch of the Clayton County Library System will hold a "Hanukkah Stories & Craft" event, in which children will hear Hanukkah-related stories, and then make a craft that ties into the Jewish holiday, on Monday, Dec. 6, from 7 p.m., to 7:45 p.m. The event will be held at the Jonesboro library branch, which is located at 124 Smith Street, in Jonesboro. Tuesday

The Headquarters branch of the Clayton County Library System will hold "Breakfast with Mrs. Claus" on Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m., to noon, at the library branch, which is located at 865 Battle Creek Road, in Jonesboro. During the event, "Mrs. Claus" will read stories to children, and have a light breakfast with the youngsters. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras, because they will be able to take pictures of their children with "Mrs. Claus." Mundy's Mill High School fine arts students will perform a "Holiday Concert" on Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 7 p.m., to 8:15 p.m., in the commons area of the school, which is located at 9652 Fayetteville Road, in Jonesboro. Call (678) 817-300.

Dec. 9

Martin Luther King, Jr., Elementary School will host a holiday program/Parent-Teacher Association meeting/social science fair on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 6:30 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the school, which is located at 5745 West Lee's Mill Road, in College Park. For more information, call (770) 991-4651.

Dec. 16

State Board of Education member, Mary Sue Murray, is scheduled to hold a public forum on Thursday, Dec. 16, from 7 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Central Administration Complex, which is located at 1058 Fifth Ave., in Jonesboro. The purpose of the forum is to get public input on state education policies and performance, from residents of Georgia's 13th Congressional District, which Murray represents on the state board. People who would like to speak at the forum will have to sign up at the meeting site, before the session begins. The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including tutoring programs for those who speak either English or Spanish, and online practice tests and electronic test-preparation books for the SAT, GED, ASVAB, and TOEFFL exams. The Everett Music School is offering a Music After School Program for local children, at the school's new location at the Emmanuel Baptist Church Campus, at 230 Ga. Hwy. 138, Bldg. B, in Riverdale. Through the program, youths receive homework assistance, Criterion-Reference Competency Test (CRCT) preparation, math and reading enrichment, and music lessons for piano, drums, singing and music theory.
