Police in Henry County are working to identify a deceased woman, whose remains were recently discovered in Stockbridge.
The remains were discovered Nov. 19, in a wooded area, at a stream, near the 900 block of Ga. Highway 138 East, according to Henry County Police Maj. Jason Bolton.
"Police maintained a crime scene at the discovery location for two days searching for evidence," he said. "A forensic examination indicated the remains are of a black or mixed-race female, between the ages of 17 to 25, and estimated the victim to have been deceased for a year or more."
Bolton added that preliminary findings from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (Lread), indicate the woman "likely died from blunt-force trauma."
Detectives have alerted other law enforcement agencies about the discovery, and have asked agencies to check their missing persons data bases, the major said.
Police did not release additional details of the investigation Friday. A spokesman for the GBI could not be reached.
Anyone with information on the case, is asked to contact Detective Capers Green, of Henry County Police, at (770) 288-8497.
