The Lovejoy wrestling team turned in a strong showing over the weekend with a third-place finish in the Carpet City Classic in Dalton.
Lovejoy was led by 145-pound wrestler Gio Ortiz. Ortiz won his weight division and was also named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler thanks to his victory over Dalton Reinaldo Torres in the finals.
Lovejoy also picked up a victory from Joyce Roye, who won the 160-pound division.
Corey Alexander took second place at 152. The Wildcats picked up two third-place finishes at the Carpet City Classic as Cassius Williams (112) and Michael Whitney (119) were also finalist for the Wildcats.
Lovejoy also got a lift from Danny Ormsby at the 285-pound division to help the Wildcats secure their third-plce team finish.
Lovejoy is preparing for a busy week. The Wildcats will wrestle this week at defending Class AAAA champion Alexander.
This week. Lovejoy and most of the teams from the Southern Crescent will participate in the annual South Metro Tournament.
This year, the annaul event takes place at McIntosh High School.
