Ralph James Simpson, 95, of McDonough, passed into the arms of his Savior on Dec. 9, 2010. The only child of Elizabeth Thackston Simpson and Ralph James Simpson, Sr., spent all of his years in McDonough, with a two-year exception of service in the U.S. Navy. A man of numerous talents, he served the community as a vocational instructor, a city council member, construction superintendent of the first high school gym, cabinet maker, furniture maker, greenhouse producer of flowers and vegetable plants, master gardener, builder of antique reproductions and bird club president. James was presently the oldest member of the First Baptist Church and the Senior Mens Sunday School Class. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Marinelle Weldon Simpson; son, Gordon Simpson, of Locust Grove; daughters, Amanda ( Kenny) Norsworthy, of Jackson, and Claralyn Simpson, of McDonough; granddaughter, Ashley (Brian) Hinkle, of Cummings; grandson, Branan Norsworthy, of Jackson, and one great-grandchild, Bryce Hinkle, of Cummings. Funeral services will be Sunday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment will follow at McDonough City Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Saturday evening, from 5 to 8 p.m., and Sunday, one hour prior to the service.
