Let's have 'love and laughter' during Christmas season - James Bell

A good friend of mine had this theme of "love and laughter" in his life, and he tried to live it out to the best of his ability.

He passed on to a better life in heaven a few weeks ago, and we sure did hate to see him go, but, at the same time, we celebrate the fact that he is now with Jesus Christ.

I'm sure they are laughing and enjoying being together. I know he is enjoying being with Jesus, and feeling His great love as a personal experience.

My friend enjoyed hearing a good story, as well as telling one, but his expertise was acting out very amusing scenes with his tongue in his cheek, as if he had a big chaw of tobacco.

He would be telling the story with a country accent and using words that would make an English teacher cringe. I can't duplicate his stories, because he made them up as he was telling them.

Then, he would punctuate his remarks with a big spit of juice flying into the air, or by spiting into a bucket. This would appear to be filling the bucket, and near the end of the story, he would throw the contents on some hapless person. Who then realized it was bits of paper!

He was fond of hearing and telling "Christian one-liners," so I have a few today that I hope you will enjoy.

* Don't let your worries get the best of you; remember, Moses started out as a basket case.

* Some people are kind, polite, and sweet-spirited until you try to sit in their pew!

* Many folks want to serve God, but only as advisors.

* It is easier to preach ten sermons than it is to live one.

* The good Lord didn't create anything without a purpose, but mosquitoes come close.

* When you get to your wit's end, you'll find God lives there.

* People are funny; they want the front of the bus, the middle of the road, and the back of the church!

* Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on your front door forever.

* Quit griping about your church; if it was perfect, you couldn't belong!

* If the church wants a better pastor, it only needs to pray for the one it has.

* God, Himself, does not propose to judge a man until he is dead. So why should you?

* Some minds are like concrete, thoroughly mixed up and permanently set!

* Peace starts with a smile.

* I don't know why some people change churches; what difference does it make which one you stay home from?

* A lot of church members who are singing "Standing on the promises" are just sitting on the premises.

* Psalm 23:6 says, "Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life ..."

I pray "Love and laughter" will fill your heart this Christmas.
