The Clayton County Board of Education aimed to help three needy families with its recent food drive, but got a little extra assistance from the community, and was able to help four families instead.

The families recently got food, as well as grocery store gift cards. School board members were able to help an additional family because the food donations surpassed expectations. Every school board member also donated, at least, $20 to buy gift cards for the families, according to school board chairperson, Alieka Anderson.

Board members sorted the food into boxes for the four families on Dec. 1, and then presented the food and gift cards to Clayton County Public Schools' homeless student liaisons at the board's Dec. 6 business meeting. The liaisons were responsible for picking the families who received the donations.
