Thomas Richard McKinnon Thomas Richard McKinnon, age 70, of Jackson, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 18, 2010 at the Spalding Regional Medical Center in Griffin. He was born in Butts County Oct. 8, 1940, son of the late Walter Leon Hall and Ruby Brooks McKinnon. Richard attended Jackson High School and was in the Georgia National Guard for 17 years, where he was a tank driver. He was employed by Overnite Transportation for 40 years. He was a road driver and had the accomplishment of driving over the road for over five million miles without an accident. He was in many state truck rodeos where he won first place several times. After retirement from Overnite, Richard drove for Southeastern Transport for three years before his retirement. He loved yard work and loved repairing things. He was known as Mr. Fix It to members of his family. He dearly loved his grandchildren and teaching them about money and how to save. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jennifer Johnson McKinnon; son, Richard Shane and Genine McKinnon of Canton; two daughters, Missy and Kenny Fisher and Christy Washington, all of Jackson; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Frank Easton of Augusta; grandchildren, Tiffany, Tucker and Ethan; step-grandchildren, Madison and McKenzie. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe McKinnon, in 2002. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson. Dr. Ed Hoard officiated with interment in the Jackson City Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m., and at other times at their residence on Halls Bridge Road.
