Fifty homebound, Clayton County senior citizens got a holiday gift basket from the chairman of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday.
"We wanted our folk, who are homebound, to have the very best we could give to them," said Eldrin Bell, who distributed the baskets –– which included a turkey or ham and all the fixings for a holiday meal –– at the Clayton County Senior Services' Aging Office, in Jonesboro.
According to Marquita Bundrage, the events and marketing coordinator for Clayton County Senior Services, "Bell secured the funds [for the baskets] from private donations."
"I, personally, went to deliver a basket to a senior," Bell said. "I raised the money, because it was in my heart and spirit," he added.
After the giveaway, Bell said he had 60 more hams and turkeys to distribute.
"There will be plenty of food for the entire holiday season," he said. "Nothing makes me feel better than to give."
