Clayton State University students are scheduled to begin taking classes in the university's new Laboratory Annex Building, also known as the LAB, in just over a week, school officials have announced.
The Morrow-based school received its certificate of occupancy on Nov. 15, 2010, for the 18,000-square-foot building, said university spokesman, John Shiffert. He added, classes will start being held in the facility when the university's spring semester begins on Jan. 10.
Shiffert said university officials will hold a formal dedication ceremony for the facility on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, from 10 a.m., to 11 a.m., in front of the building. The facility is located between Clayton State's Business and Health Sciences Building, and its Arts and Sciences Building, on Clayton State's main campus in Morrow.
For years, university officials have said the university does not have enough laboratory space to meet the demands of its more than 6,000 students. The LAB will help relieve that problem, Shiffert said, with four natural sciences laboratories, a psychology laboratory, a 48-seat classroom, and faculty offices.
