Pastor Ralgerald "Ral" Waltower said he hopes to further his senior pastor's vision -- to "know Christ and make Him known."
Waltower was installed Jan. 31 as the campus pastor at Higher Living Christian Church Community Impact Center, located at 2450 Mount Zion Pkwy., in Jonesboro. He will preside over the first service at that location Sunday.
Waltower, 45, was chosen by Higher Living's Senior Pastor, Andre Landers, to serve as campus pastor. Waltower said he wants to serve as an "echo" for what God is doing in Landers' life.
"My goal is to support the vision God has given to Pastor Landers," Waltower said. "As I have supported his vision without an agenda, God has allowed the gifts that were in me to be seen."
The highlight of the installation service for Waltower, he said, was "having my pastor recognizing a pastoral gift." He added that he hopes to use that gift to benefit his church.
"My expectation and hope would be to continue the path that we're on, which is to grow members into disciples," Waltower said. "I believe we will be able to support the community, by providing an alternate location of worship services where the uncompromised truth of Jesus Christ will be taught."
Waltower was accompanied during the installation service by his wife, Shirley. She said she was "truly surprised" when she learned Landers had selected her husband as a campus pastor, but is confident in Waltower's abilities.
"I have no doubt that my husband is equipped to carry out this assignment," Shirley Waltower said. "He walks with great integrity as a man of God, at home and around others. He truly has a heart for ministering, teaching and discipling the people of God."
She described her husband as a man of "compassion," who has the ability to influence the lives of those in the congregation.
"I believe he will ... both encourage and challenge them to have a deeper walk with God," she said.
She added that she knows her husband's new role will require "dedication, sacrifices, and commitment." According to her, the couple is relying on God to enable them to accomplish the tasks ahead of them.
"Because this is the direction that the Lord is leading us in, we always want to be in His will, where His strength abides," she said.
