From Staff Reports
On the heels of the apparent re-emergence of a suspected serial sexual assaulter and rapist, Clayton County Police have scheduled two meetings with residents of the apartment complex that is the site of his latest reported attack.
Police will meet with residents of the Marquis at Mt. Zion Apartments, at 7290 Southlake Parkway in Morrow, tonight, to discuss securing their residences and heightening their awareness of suspicious activity. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m., in the clubhouse of the apartment complex, according to Clayton County Police Officer Otis Willis, III.
Willis said a subsequent meeting will be held with residents of the same complex on Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m., also in the clubhouse.
According to Officer India Smith, a spokesperson for the police department, a young woman was assaulted at the Marquis at Mt. Zion apartment complex around 4 a.m., on Saturday.
Smith said the suspect entered the apartment through an unlocked window and went into the victim's bedroom while she was asleep, and other family members were also asleep in the apartment.
She said police believe the sexual assault was committed by a serial rapist, whom authorities say, has committed at least seven other sexual assaults since December of 2008 at apartment complexes in Morrow, Jonesboro, Stockbridge, and College Park.
The most recent, prior incident released by Clayton County police was a woman reporting to have been raped on Aug. 22 of last year at The Woods Apartments in College Park.
Police said they will host meetings throughout the county, similar to those being held this week at the Marquis at Mt. Zion. Anyone with information on the suspect's identity was asked to call the police department tip line at (770) 473-5400.
