With straight A's since kindergarten, devoting herself to her studies has become a habit for Kimiko Krieger, but she also has a passion for dance.

"Definitely, you have to put in some time," she said. "Keeping up with the stuff [school work] is the hard part. Being dedicated is the easy part."

With a 4.0 grade-point average, Krieger is the STAR Student for 2009-2010 at Mundy's Mill High School in Jonesboro.

She said she is currently taking courses which include human-anatomy physiology, Advanced Placement (AP) economics, AP literature, AP calculus, computer applications II and fundamentals of design.

Outside of academics, Krieger said she is involved in her school's BETA Club, National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America groups.

She said she also has a passion for step dancing, which she's been involved in since middle school. She said she is the captain of the Black Orchids, her school's step team.

"As far as my extracurricular time, I've been stepping for the most part," she said.

Krieger said it is important for students to challenge themselves, because it is the only way they can discover their true potential.

"I always do my best in everything and improvement is always great," she said.

Krieger said she plans to attend Hampton University in Hampton, Va. "I am actually planning to go there [to campus] for spring break," she said.

Krieger said she will be a pre-med student and will major in biology, with plans to become an obstetrician.

She said that once she enters her field of study, it is her goal to find a way to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

"I think new babies are blessings," she said.
