I was witnessing to a family one evening years ago, and as I shared the story of Christ with them, I paused to ask a beautiful 7-year-old girl if she knew she had sin in her life.
Her grandmother was listening and she said, "No, this sweet little girl has no sin, nor has she done anything wrong."
Before I could speak, the girl said, "I do have sin in my life and I know I have done wrong." This is the work of the Holy Spirit. He convicts us of sin and shows us the way to repentance and how to accept Christ as savior.
The Bible clearly states that we all have sin in our lives. Romans 3:23 says, "All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God." 1st John 1:8 says: "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us."
Man is sinful by nature and needs forgiveness from God, because his sin is against Him. God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses as laws for men to live by, and if we break His laws, we are guilty of sin. These laws were amplified by Jesus Christ when He said in Mark 12:29, "The most important one is this: Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God, The Lord is one, love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. And the second is this -- love your neighbor as your self. There is no Commandment greater than these."
There are those who think they are not bad persons and sincerely feel they are good persons. I have had some say to me, "I don't feel that I am a bad person, I don't steal and I don't lie, and I certainly haven't killed anyone. In fact, I'm a pretty good person."
I believe them and commend them for living a good life by the standards of this world, however, God requires us to live by His standards.
At this point, I would ask, "Do you believe in God?" Many would answer, "Yes, I believe in God and I don't believe He would let a good person go to hell."
But God's plan of salvation says we must believe in Jesus Christ, in His life and death on the cross, and in His resurrection from the dead. He doesn't say being good will get you to Heaven. Being good is work, as if we could earn our salvation, but the Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9: "For it is by grace you are saved, through faith, and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast."
Praise God we are saved by His Grace, His love and tender mercy, otherwise we would have to live perfect lives, and no man is capable of being perfect.
All we have to do is repent of our sins, tell Him we do believe in Jesus Christ and ask Him to forgive our sins! Is this too difficult to do or too hard for one to understand? No, for God has made it simple for all to find forgiveness and receive His gift of eternal life.
Listen to the Bible, God's Word, which is the truth and will never fail us: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
The sweet little girl and her mother confessed their sins that night and God saved them. They both prayed to receive Christ and His gift of eternal life, their names were written in God's book of life. Their lives are being blessed every day and they will go to Heaven when they die.
If you know you are a sinner, and you are willing to confess your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ, He will forgive you -- no matter what you have done, and He will remember your sins no more. Hebrews 8:12 says , "For I will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more."
God does hear the sinner's prayer and will keep His promise to forgive! Trust in Him today. I pray you will. Please call us at (770) 603-PRAY, and allow us to pray with you and for you.
