To the Editor:
Margaret and I wish to thank you for your business and help during the last 42 years in business.
The funeral business is changing, and I'm not able to keep up with all the changes.
As many of you know, my health has been failing for several years, almost to the point of death. For this reason, to protect the funeral home and the wonderful people who worked for us, we had to make a tough decision, and that was to sell. But to whom? Not a chain outfit where you are just a number, but to someone who would take care of our people as we would try to do.
We have known and done business with Bill and Bob Wheeler for many years. They grew up in Newton County and now are independent owners of Wheeler Funeral Home and J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home in Covington. We believe they will do their best to carry on as we would.
Those you have been so use to waiting on you, Rudy Mangham, Russ Crumbley, Ralph Wilson, Mac Spruill and Bonnie Richardson, will continue to be there along with Rickey Blackburn, the new manager.
Rickey lived in the Worthville area with his wife, Gladys, who is a nurse at the Newton County Hospital. They will be a great asset to the county.
Thank you again for your outpouring of love, friendship and business. We shall always be grateful to you.
