The Henry County wrestling team's quest for a state duals championship came to a familiar fate at the hands of a familiar opponent. The Warhawks fell 38-24 to Sonoraville in the semifinal match of the winners bracket Friday in Macon. Sonoraville ruined Henry County's chances of a state duals championship last season. Even with an inexperienced lineup, Henry County began the day with victories over East Laurens (61-9) and Blessed Trinity (48-12) and put themselves into position to attain at least the top-4 finish Warhawks coach Marty Hutsell hoped for. No other Southern Crescent team managed a first-round victory Friday. In Class AAAAA, Union Grove fell to Centennial (39-28) and Lovejoy, the lone representative from Clayton County, lost to Kennesaw Mountain (42-30). In Class AAAA, Stockbridge fell to Loganville (48-21). The Tigers entered the state duals tournament after Area 4-AAAA champ Ola was disqualified for improper weigh-ins at the area duals meet. Locust Grove fell 47-27 to perenniel favorite West Laurens in the Wildcats' first-ever appearance in its first year of existence.More like this story
