The national commander of the American Legion will visit Clayton County American Legion Post 258 in Jonesboro on Saturday, according to Post Commander John Harper.
Harper said Clarence Hill, who was elected to the position of national commander of the 2.5-million-member American Legion on Aug. 27, is scheduled to attend a lunch function at the post, which is located at 1480 American Legion Way, in Jonesboro. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Harper said. Several elected officials are also expected to be in attendance. Hill was commissioned in 1972 from the U.S. Naval Academy, and retired as a captain in 1996 after 24 years of service. A 27-year Legionnaire, Hill is a life member and three-time post commander of the American Legion Post 316 in Atlantic Beach, Fla.
