An 18-year-old girl was shot in the head and killed, Thursday, while she was driving a car on Creekstone Way in Riverdale, according to Clayton County Police.
The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m., when four occupants of a dark blue, 2004 Chevy Impala had a verbal altercation with another group of individuals, who were walking along the street, according to Lt. Tina Daniel, a spokesperson for the police department, in a written statement.
"Soon thereafter, approximately six shots were fired directly into the vehicle," Daniel said, in the statement. One of the bullets struck the 18-year-old, black female driver in the back, left side of the head, Daniel said.
The female driver was pronounced dead at Southern Regional Hospital on Friday, according to Daniel.
A 17-year-old, black, male passenger in the Impala was injured when a bullet grazed the left side of his head, according to the police statement.
The victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, in Atlanta, with non-life-threatening injuries, Daniel said.
Police did not immediately release the names of the victims, nor descriptions of possible suspects in the case.
"We are currently working several leads on the shooter, and we do suspect possible gang activity," Daniel said.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477.
