Clayton County Police have released the names of the teenagers shot last week in a car in Riverdale.
Iasha Brion Scott, 18, of Jonesboro, was shot in the head and killed, Thursday, while she was driving a car on Creekstone Way, according to Clayton County Police.
The driver-side, rear passenger of the vehicle, 17-year-old Davion Lamar Hayes, was injured when a bullet grazed the left side of his head, according to police.
Hayes was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with non-life-threatening injuries, Clayton County Police Lt. Tina Daniel said in a statement.
The incident occurred when Scott and Hayes, who were the occupants of a dark blue, 2004 Chevrolet Impala, got into a verbal altercation with another group of individuals who were walking along the street, according to Daniel.
"Soon thereafter, approximately six shots were fired directly into the vehicle," Daniel said in the statement. One of the bullets struck Scott in the back, left side of the head, Daniel said.
Scott was pronounced dead at Southern Regional Medical Center on Friday, according to Daniel.
"Prior to this incident, both individuals have been known to have prior gang affiliations," Officer Otis Willis, III, a spokesperson for the police department, said in a written statement.
Police are working several leads in the case, Daniel said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477.
