Haiti benefit concert at Locust Grove church

A benefit concert, to aid earthquake victims in Haiti, is planned in Henry County.

"I know a lot of people who have family in Haiti, and we felt we needed to do something," said Taquanda Miles, one of the organizers of the "Project Recovery" benefit concert.

The fund-raiser is planned for Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m., at The Anchor Church, located at 10 Cleveland Street in Locust Grove, according to Miles.

Several local musical groups will be included in the showcase.

The fund-raiser is being organized by Kingdom Generation Church. Miles, whose husband is the pastor of the church, said the event is a collaborative effort with The Anchor Church.

The concert is free, she said, but attendees will be asked to make donations.

"We're hoping to get at least $5,000 to send to the American Red Cross," said Miles.

The money collected will be turned over immediately, she said.

"There will be a representative from the Red Cross there [at the concert]," Miles said. "What we collect, we'll give to them."

The money given to the Red Cross representative will be used to help with relief efforts, she said.
