Missy is a nine and a half year old Shepherd mix. She has been fully vaccinated and spayed. Missy is a past member of the CCHS family; having been adopted out way back in 2002, when she was only two years old. Missy lived happily with her new family until 2009, when both of them passed away. There was no family willing to take Missy, so she landed back at CCHS. Unfortunately, when she came back and went through her routine medical exam, it was discovered that her family had not kept up with her required heartworm prevention and poor Missy had become infected with heartworms. She is being treated for the problem, but due to her age, CCHS has opted for a more gentle treatment which does take a bit longer, but she is doing well and a full recovery is expected. Missy should suffer no long-term problems from the heartworms. Missy loves people, but does not care for other animals. At her age, she wants to be an "only pet" so that she can have all the attention that a new home and family can offer. Missy is a great dog, who does not understand the sudden upheaval in her life; and she certainly does not deserve or need to spend her "golden years" in an animal shelter. There is a special adoption fee in place for anyone interested in giving this great girl a proper retirement home. If you can help Missy, please call Clayton County Humane at 770/471-9436.
