I have the opportunity to talk with 20 to 30 soldiers at Atlanta's airport every week, and most of them seem to feel that they aren't doing enough for God to bless them, or they aren't living right and don't deserve His blessings.
When I ask them, "Why should God let you into His Heaven?" they usually give an answer similar to this: "I try to do the right thing, to live right and to help others." Or, "Because I am a good person and I haven't done anything really bad."
Some say, "I know I'm not good enough to go to Heaven." Some few say, "He should let me in because I deserve to be there."
One thing I always hear is that they are not "doing" something. Either not doing good, or not going to church or not being a "religious" person.
I think people who are not Christians realize they are not living the way they should be, but they are either, not willing to pay the price, or feel the Christian life would be too restrictive for them.
If this kind of thinking is true, it would mean God's love for us is conditional based on something we must do, some cost we must pay, but if that is the case, then we must buy or earn our way into Heaven.
What do you think would be a fair price for one to buy a home in Heaven?
Actually, the Bible tells us the answer to this question. Ephesians 2: 8,9 says, "It is by grace you are saved, through faith and not of yourself, It is the gift of God, not by works, lest any man should boast."
No person can buy or earn his own way to Heaven. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except by me." Jesus has already paid the price for us all Heaven is free all one needs to do is to believe, to put his trust in Jesus.
Yes, God's Love is unconditional. He doesn't say, "If you will work for 40 years in my vineyard, I will give you Eternal Life." Or, "If you will share what you have with the poor, or never pass up a chance to give a beggar money or food, I will let you into Heaven." Or, "If you will build a church or witness to the lost for me, then I will give you a home in Heaven."
But He does say: "Believe and trust in me, accept my salvation for free, by accepting My Son as your savior." Romans 10: 9,10 tells us: "If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the mouth one confesses, resulting in righteousness, and with the heart one believes, resulting in salvation."
Praise God, we don't have to try to be "good" enough to go to Heaven!
If so, then one would have to be perfect and without sin. And I haven't met a sinless person, yet. But I have met many forgiven people.
Why not be forgiven and free from your sin? I pray you will.
