It is a question that has been on my mind many times, and I'm sure you have thought about Heaven and what it will be like.
In the Bible, the 14 chapter of John, verses 1-6, we learn that Heaven is a place prepared for those who love the Lord and believe in, and belong to, Him. Here Jesus tells us: "In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
Heaven is the final home of all who are redeemed by the blood of Christ. It is the place where God dwells. "Hear from Heaven, your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive." (1st Kings 8:30, NIV) Heaven is the city of God. "But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God." (Hebrews 12:22,NIV).
It is the dwelling place of angels and saints. Heaven is the eternal home of all believers. "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." (2nd Cor. 5:8 KJV).
At the second coming of Christ, all Christians shall be raptured. "Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1st Thess.4:17 KJV).
It is a place of worship, praise and service where the redeemed will be forever relieved of sinfulness by Him who will be our joy forever. "And there shall nowise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lambs book of life." (Revelations 21:27, KJV).
Please read Rev. 5:9-14 (NIV) to see for yourself some things saints will do in heaven.
We will recognize our loved ones who died in Christ, and also fellowship with the great Bible saints. "Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters -- one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." (Matt. 17:3, 4 NIV).
How wonderful it will be to see and hug our mothers and fathers and all our family and friends who have gone on before us!
I think heaven will be something on the order of the Garden of Eden but will be more glorious and complete, prepared for millions of saints. The 21st chapter of Revelation through the first five verses of chapter 22, describe the new heaven. Please read these scriptures, for they will give you a great picture of what heaven will be like. The greatest experience of heaven will be, being in the presence of God, praising Him and having fellowship with all the saints.
Verse 10b-11 says, "And showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel. Like jasper, clear as crystal." Verse 18b says, "The city of pure gold as pure as glass."
Matthew Henry says, "Whatever is excellent and valuable in this world shall be there enjoyed in a more refined kind, and to a far greater degree." He further states of chapter 22: 1-5, "The heavenly state is here described as a paradise -- a whole city in a paradise - whole cities and Nations shall find abundant delight and satisfaction."
In heaven, the sanctified shall live in the presence of God and shall reign with Him forever. All this shall be with perfect knowledge and joy, walking in the light of the Lord. (Parts taken from the Commentary of Matthew Henry.)
