Police continue to search for a motive in the drive-by shooting of a 21-year-old woman at a combination birthday party and house warming, at her Jonesboro home.

Sunday night, the victim was shot once in the head, shoulder and leg, said Officer Otis Willis, III, public information officer for the Clayton County Police Department.

Willis said police received a call to the Jonesboro home at 10:44 p.m. He said the woman was shot while dancing on the rear end of a parked, red, Pontiac vehicle, in front of her home in the 500 block of Maggie Lane. Clayton County Fire and Rescue also responded to the incident, and transported the woman to Grady Memorial Hospital, in Atlanta.

Willis said the victim's injuries are serious, and that she is alive, although he did not know her condition.

While the woman danced on top of the vehicle, (another) car, believed to be a red Honda Civic, reportedly drove by her, and reached the end of the street, where it turned around and came back, according to Willis. "As it approached [on] the second trip, a black male ... discharged a fire arm," said Willis.

He said the male allegedly fired four, to five shots at the woman, and she was hit three times. When asked about the motive, Willis said the department has been informed that "recently, she [the victim] had evicted a roommate, and that roommate had made idle threats." He said those threats were made via text messages.

Willis said that, currently, he does not have the age or a description of the male shooter, and he did not know any more about the relationship between the victim and the roommate.

In addition, Willis said he did not have the name of the victim at press time.
