A 15-year-old is in police custody for allegedly shooting a 25-year-old man, who police said was involved in an "amorous" relationship with the teen's mother.

The shooting grew out of an argument between the teen, and his mother's friend, according to Officer Otis Willis, III, public information officer for the Clayton County Police Department.

"Witnesses said it was just an argument," said Willis.

The teenager is being held at the Clayton County Regional Youth Detention Center, and faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a pistol by a person under 18 years of age, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, said Willis.

"All those charges were filed on a juvenile petition ... It is still serious," said Willis, during a phone interview. Willis said the victim is a friend of the juvenile's mother. The victim had an amorous relationship with the mother, he added.

During the argument, the 15-year-old (who is not being identified because he is a minor) allegedly shot four, or five times, at his mother's friend, and the adult male received two shots in the abdomen, and one shot in the arm, Willis said. The subject of the argument is unknown, he said.

The incident occurred on Sunday, at 7:15 p.m., at the corner of Fielder Road and Cabriolet Trail, in Rex,

Clayton County Fire and Rescue responded to the incident and transported the victim to Grady Memorial Hospital, in Atlanta, where he is in stable condition.

Willis said he is not releasing the name of the victim, at the moment, because the police department has to make sure the incident did not involve domestic violence. Police do not release names of victims of a domestic-violence incident, Willis said.

He added that police have not released a police report on the incident, and it is still under investigation.
