What do antiques, pacific island dancers, writers and "Jack and the Beanstalk" have in common?
All of them will come together on Saturday, for the Clayton County Library System Headquarters Branch's "Antiques on the Lawn" event, which will last from 9 a.m., to 4 p.m., at the Headquarters Branch, which is located at 865 Battle Creek Road, in Jonesboro.
According to a flyer for the event, provided by Headquarters Branch Managing Librarian Sherry Turner, this will serve as the kick-off for the library system's adult summer reading program.
During the festivities, local antiques appraiser, Verna Muthoni, will do appraisals of antiques from 9 a.m., to noon. The cost of the appraisal is a $5 donation to the Friends of the Library group.
Additionally, there will be a "Trash to Treasures Walkway" yard sale throughout the event, where people can sell their old items, as long as they reserve a spot before the event, for only a $10 donation to the Friends of the Library.
There will also be three writer's workshops, including "Writing Fiction" (9 a.m., to 10:30 a.m.), "Writing for Children and Young Adults" (11 a.m., to 12:30 p.m.), and "Writing Poetry" (2:30 p.m., to 4 p.m.).
Another attraction will be a pacific island dance group that will perform at 10:30 a.m., and visitors can also enjoy a puppet show performance of "Jack and the Beanstalk" by Atlanta-based All Hands Productions, at 1 p.m.
